Raeyn snorted sarcastically and laughed, the sound resonating with lack of humor. "You have to be kidding. Us? No way." She laughed again. Wait... What if he's serious? Looking at Fang, she almost regretted what she'd said, afraid she had hurt his feelings.

Fang just shrugged, not letting the hurt show. He was good at hiding his emotions. "That's just what they said. I never said I believed it." Of course, he did believe it. At least, he wanted to.

Now she knew she'd done something wrong. Having known Fang long enough to know when he was hiding something, she could see it clear as day. "Well, you never know."

Fang said nothing. He had nothing to say. What was he going to do? Blurt out that he had been in love her for years now? No, cause that just wasn't Fang. He wondered if she really believed that, or if she was just trying to comfort him.

Raeyn turned away from him and looked through the trees. The urge she felt to just go and run away through those trees was almost unsupressable. Her mouth had always gotten her into trouble, and it was always too quick for her to tame it. Stupid. You're stupid. Suddenly she felt that if she didn't go flying for at least a few minutes, she'd burn into a lump of weird gooey stuff that you only saw in movies. "Hey, I'll be right back. I'm gonna go flying for a few."

"Okay.. Sure." Fang looked at the water as he spoke, not even glancing her direction. Flying did sound good right then. But he felt as if he didn't even have the strength. It was very un Fanglike.

She got up and shifted. Her wing thudded with a dull pain, but she ignored it. It didn't take long for her tiny body to be up and spinning through the trees. Could you ever be happy with Fang? Her logical, thoughtful sided brain asked.

Fang stood up slowly, watching her fly away. He felt like he needed some alone time himself. And then he turned, and saw them. The white coats. He actually smiled a little. You must be insane, Fang. He knew why they were here: they had found him and wanted to take him back. He ran toward them, punching one in the face, hearing his nose crack, watching it bleed. But then he felt a sharp pain in his side. And his shirt became dark with blood. Are they trying to kill me or capture me?

Raeyn heard them before she sensed them. Flying above the trees and heading back to Fang, she saw them. Those damned white-coats. She was about to call to him and tell him to fly up to her, but she saw him rush towards them. What is he doing?! Her wings folded tightly against her sides and she dropped to the dreaded humans.

Fang looked up and saw her. She was coming to help him. He wanted to tell her not to, but suddenly his voice didn't want to work. He was tired of them, tired of running. He wanted to fight. He kicked the one that stabbed him in the stomach, smiling a little as he flew backward. He paused, looking down at his side and yanked out the tiny knife, wincing as he did so. Which was a mistake. The one he punched actually punched him back while he was distracted. You bastard, he thought.

Seeing Fang almost dominate all of them gave her a strange clench in her stomach. She kept her wings tight to her body, and attacked the one who'd punched Fang with her talons. When she backed away, his face was not much but a bloody shred of skin, his cries of pain brought her joy. Raeyn then spread her wings again and floated into the leaves of a nearby tree, watching.

Fang smiled a little as they turned, got back in their van, and drove away. He touched his face gently and felt blood. He felt a little dizzy too.. Sighing softly, Fang sat on the ground, and when that didn't help he laid down on the ground. He looked up at the tree that Raeyn had flown to, and said, "I could have handled them..."

"Sure you could have. I can totally tell from your 'unscathed' appearance." Raeyn flew from the tree and shifted back to her human self, tossing her hair back over her shoulders after she sat next to Fang on the ground. Ouch, her mind flicked towards her injured arm; she'd reopened the wound when flying back up to the tree. Hiding it from him, she laid her other hand on the gash in his side. "Are you okay?"

"No," he said truthfully. It was hard for him to breath, and his chest was rising and falling slowly. Just don't take me to a hospital, he silently begged. And right then, his feelings for her were overwhelming. He almost had to resist the urge to kiss her with her leaning over him like that. But if he died, he could have died happy.

"I'm sorry, I shouldn't have left. I could have stopped them," she ducked her head. Even Raeyn couldn't deny the small butterflies that came to her stomach when her skin even brushed Fangs. "Maybe I should take you to the hospital..." she said, her pitch raising ever so slightly when she looked at her hand, covered in her only friends blood. She backed up, taking her hand off of the wound.
