"Well this place is rather eerie, wouldn't you say?" Jessie said aloud to herself. She had been walking around since sun down, liking the dark, cool weather much better than daytime. With her tail swaying back and forth slowly, her large paws sounded strangely quiet on the floor of the forest she had entered. Everything seemed... well, almost dead. She wondered if she could hole up in this mysterious place for a few days without any trouble. Stretching her limbs, she yawned.

Demetri's white pelt stood out in the darkness of the forest. He could hear his paws thumping down on the earth whenever he took a step. Stopping, he sniffed the air. He wasn't alone. The voice began to speak up in his head. It must be another shifter. Find it and kill it.

Something's wrong... Her claws dug into the earth nervously. Twitching her ears every which way, Jessie could hear something. Maybe the forest wasn't so dead after all. Then again, maybe her pursuers had found her. She coiled her body and shot up to an overhanging tree branch. Then, sitting on the branch, she watched with wary eyes.

Demetri walked by the tree that she was in, stopped, and sniffed the air. Looking up in the tree, what he saw was a panther. Grinning, he flexed his claws. Being a tiger, he was slightly bigger than her. The voice in his head was telling him to strike...

Looking down, she saw the noisy creature. A tiger. How she hated those tykes who felt they could take her down just because of her size... She could see the pride in his eyes. Her ears flattened against her head and she hissed at him. "If you don't have a bone to pick with me, move along."

Growling, Demetri swiped his claws at the tree. And it shook. He felt... Angry today. Even more so than usual. Lashing his tail, he just glared at her.

She sat up, digging her claws into the bark. She hated people who couldn't direct their anger somewhere else besides at her. Glaring back at him, she saw a flame that seemed to despise everything it looked at.

Did she even know who she was dealing with? A crazy, schizophrenic tiger. Well that was how others saw him. In his mind, Demetri was the angel of death. And he would kill her next. The only time he resisted the voice in his head was when he fell in love, now she was gone and he was meaner than ever. He supposed that was because he missed her. Oh well. He swiped at the tree again.

She felt like jumping on his back and tearing his skin off, but she resisted. It took a stupid idiot to not see the power behind his limbs. Sure, she might be able to put up a good fight, but running for the past two years taught her many things. She even considered running, but shook her head. She jumped up onto the next stable branch, climbing higher up the tree. Her paws itched to get away from the ill tempered tiger.

Demetri just watched her climb higher up the tree, taking another powerful swipe at it. He hated the world not that Roxxy was gone. But hadn't he already? Yes.. He had. And the world hated him too. "Why don't you come down here instead of trying to run away?"

"I would if I knew you wouldn't rip my hide off," she hissed. She muttered under her breath, "Stupid angry tiger." Now she was wishing she hadn't come to this forest. Such an unpleasant acquaintance was sure to make her even more paranoid of meeting new people. Too bad. This one was cute. Oh well, she thought. Nothing ever changed in this dreary world, did it? Her tail lashed back and forth angrily.

Demetri sat and watched her. "You have no idea." He wrapped his tail around his paws. There was an ache, deep down in his heart. But he didn't let it show.

Jesse glared down at him. "Then go on your way. You have nothing to do with me." She yelled to the tiger. Laying down on the branch she'd jumped on recently, she got comfortable. She might be up in the tree much longer than she wanted to.

"Now why should I do that?" Demetri smiled at her. Not a pleasant smile really. But deep down inside he supposed he just wanted to be with someone again. But how could that ever happen?

"Well, for one thing, I'm hungry. And you're just giving me a problem." She lowered her voice. Stomach growling for food, she felt her eyelids droop out of exhaustion. She had been traveling all night, after all. It was almost sun up. How she hated day time...
